A list of the frequently asked questions we receive in our office.

Read our common FAQs

What types of conditions does the chiropractor care for?

Our chiropractors provide care for a large variety of conditions and reasons. Common conditions such as sciatica, low back pain, headaches, shoulder and neck tension, and radiating pain are just a few examples of common conditions that our doctors get great results with.

Other patients may choose to integrate spine and nervous system care into their regular health routine. Spinal maintenance adjustments have become a widely accepted way of staying mobile and optimized over the long term.

What is the chiropractors’ education and experience?

Both of our chiropractors have over 20 years of chiropractic experience. Our chiropractors are licensed in the state of Tennessee and continue to grow and develop through advanced continuing education each and every year.

Dr. Scott Courtley completed his Chiropractic doctorate at Sherman College of Chiropractic in South Carolina, and Dr. Matt Tonnos completed his Chiropractic doctorate at Life University in Georgia.

How long is each appointment, and how many visits will I need?

Each person‘s situation and needs are very unique and different. After a thorough evaluation our doctors will know more about your individual requirements. It is common in our office that a patient with a significant issue to correct may need to be seen multiple times at the beginning of treatment to help retrain the body into its proper function.

We ask that patients in our office leave approximately 60 minutes in their schedule for their first appointment in the office. Usually, a follow-up appointment takes approximately 15 minutes.

What are the costs associated with visiting a chiropractor?

This is a very common yet difficult question as many unique factors apply. One of the most significant variables is your insurance’s contribution. We have a lot of experience with insurance billing and excellent cash-pay options for those without insurance.

Once we have completed your evaluation and touched base with your insurance company, we will be able to outline a more precise fee structure.

What is the chiropractor‘s approach to treatment?

Our chiropractic team approaches each case individually. Depending on the patient’s goals and the care possibilities, we aim to develop the most efficient and appropriate plan of action to help you meet your specific goals. Individual goals vary from person to person. Our team is committed to helping you achieve your personal goals and desired outcomes.

Does the chiropractor use any specific techniques?

Both of our very experienced chiropractors are versed in a multitude of techniques. Our approach is to use the best combination of techniques to accommodate a patient’s preference and get the best results possible. Some patients prefer gentle and instrument-based adjusting, while others may prefer manual adjustments that are most commonly associated with hearing an audible release. In dialogue with our patients, we strive to create results and meet patients at their comfort level.

What should you expect during your first visit?

Upon entering the clinic, our friendly and welcoming team will guide you every step of the way. We’ll first get to know you and what motivates you to seek our help. We will ask you a series of pertinent health-related questions to ensure we understand every bit of your concern, where it came from, and how it’s impacting your life.

After this, one of our doctors will take you through a series of specific tests that will allow us to find the underlying root issue and ensure that you are a great candidate for the type of care we provide in our office. If, by chance, you aren’t a great candidate for the kind of care we provide, we will be sure to let you know the exact issue and provider you will need to see.

Following that analysis, our doctors will determine if spinal imaging is necessary. We will use our digital, state-of-the-art X-ray system to take any needed films if required.

Finally, if appropriate, our doctors will take you through the process of receiving your first chiropractic adjustment. Following that first visit, our chiropractors will analyze your case and determine the most efficient and effective course of action to get you the fastest results possible.

Will the chiropractor adjust me on my first visit?

Our doctors hope to be able to begin care of our patients as soon as possible. Most commonly, a patient will receive a chiropractic adjustment on their first visit.

How long will it take me to see results?

Most patients notice an immediate improvement in their symptoms after the first visit. There are occasions where deep-rooted and long-standing issues may persist in a more chronic nature, and understanding that those conditions may respond more slowly is important to recognize.

Does your office provide care for pregnant women and children?

Both of our chiropractors have extensive training and experience in caring for pregnant women and pediatric cases. A passion of both of our doctors is making sure that children grow up strong and healthy. Chiropractic is a regular part of both doctors’ care for their own children.

Do I have to have long-term care in your office?

We have a variety of ways that patients utilize chiropractic care in our office. Some patients choose to use chiropractic intermittently whenever they have pain or a spinal issue that is ailing them. Other patients use chiropractic as a healthy lifestyle choice to keep their body strong, healthy, and mobile proactively, similar to routine dental visits to avoid more significant issues. The choice is always up to the patient to determine how they want to engage in care in our office.

If I have X-rays, MRIs, or CT scans, should I bring them?

Our doctors encourage you to bring as much relevant information as possible. When able, we prefer not to duplicate relevant, up-to-date imaging when available. Our team appreciates knowing as much as possible about your case.

Does chiropractic care hurt?

Most commonly, patients are pleasantly surprised with how gentle and painless a chiropractic adjustment is. Most patients who have feared being adjusted are comforted by our doctors’ explanations and excellent bedside manner. Our goal is to make your experience comfortable, stress-relieving, and pain-free.

Is there a long wait time in your office?

We do everything possible to avoid wasting your time in our office. We do our very best to run an on-time office and appreciate that most patients can experience a routine chiropractic office visit in about a 15-minute window. We recognize that efficiency is imperative as most people’s lives are very busy, and they don’t have time for unpredictable doctor’s office wait times.
